I am Jerry Hunt and this is my story. I am one of the three partners that established Premiere Marine, in September 2009. Growing up in a boating family in Des Moines, Iowa, the early years were filled with many memorable vacations to the lakes of N.W. Iowa and Lake of the Ozarks. Then in 1964 our family discovered the unspoiled beauty of Table Rock Lake and our boating life changed forever. Over the years we spent many weeks introducing our friends to the “lake lifestyle” at Table Rock. Fast forward to 1988, a career change was in order and with my passion for all things boating, I was introduced to the marine business working as a rigger at Waters Edge Marine in Johnston, Iowa. After attending more factory training classes than I can count I became a certified technician for both M ercury Marine and Outboard Marine Corp. products. Ten years after starting in the boating business , the opportunity presented itself to get away from the “hard water” (ice) that covered the lakes in Iowa 4 months out of the year and move to S.W. Missouri, taking a position with Port Arrowhead and then MarineMax in Nixa. The next 11 years were a learning experience, as the boats we were servicing continued to grow in size and complexity. In 2007 I achieved a career long dream, Mercruiser Master Technician. Due to changing economic conditions in 2009, a number of boat dealers in the area ceased operations. MarineMax closed a number of stores through out the U.S with the Nixa location among them. We felt this market was in need of an experienced service and repair team. Thus was born Premiere Marine, LLC. In the fall of 2016, with one partner announcing his exit to take a position outside the company and the other having health issues, my wife and I decided to buy the company assets and the building we have been in since our start in 2009. Thus, on October 1, 2016 we became Premiere Marine Services.
Dusty Flood is the lead technician. He started out his career working for his grandfather at Indian Point Marina. He worked there for 7 years and enjoyed it so much he went to school to learn more about it.
Dusty spent 4 years as a tech at Ulrich Marine before moving to Port Arrowhead, where he first met Jerry. When Port Arrowhead was bought out by MarineMax, Dusty stayed on along with Jerry and continued to work side by side with him.
When MarineMax closed, Jerry along with 2 former colleagues formed Premiere Marine, LLC. They hired Dusty to be one of their technicians. When 2 of the original partners decided to pursue other interests outside of Premiere Marine, LLC, Jerry and his wife bought the assets and building of the old company and made the easy decision to not only keep Dusty on but also to promote him to Lead Technician. Dusty’s experience and go-getter attitude is a huge asset to Premiere Marine Services.
Dave Kain is one of our valued technicians. He began tinkering with engines around the age of 14 in Northeastern Missouri where he lived with his family. He has 30 plus years of combined experience working with aircraft and automobile engines. When he moved to the Ozarks, he felt it would be a good time to add to his repertoire of experience and knowledge by getting into the marine industry and joining the Premiere Marine team. Dave has been a very valuable addition to our technician team. Because of his extensive knowledge base, he was able to jump right into the swing of things around the shop.
Bruce Tangora is one of our valued technicians. He grew up in Republic and currently resides in Nixa. He started working on boats part time when he was 16. He is well known for owning/operating his own marine shop, Tangora Marine Service, for 29 years. Bruce decided it was time to retire but did not want to get completely out of the industry.
Because of his vast knowledge of the industry, Bruce jumped right in during the height of the summer boating season without batting an eye. Bruce is a valuable addition to our technician team.
Julie Zang is our office manager. Julie came to Premiere Marine in May 2016 to fill in for our secretary while she was out on medical leave. Julie’s desire to learn has made her invaluable to the shop. Even with having a brand new baby, she really stepped up to the plate to keep the office running smoothly so Jerry and the techs could be out on service calls.
When Premiere Marine, LLC closed and Premiere Marine Services opened, Julie took on even more responsibility, learning Quickbooks, speaking with our accountant regularly, working with our social media manager, and basically doing anything that was asked of her with enthusiasm.Julie is a huge asset to the company and a big reason the day-to-day operations run so smooth.
